Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I get a picture of what this is all about?
A: The Cape-Town Mankind-Project community is holding an Open I-Group on Wednesday 17 February 2010, in the City-Bowl. This is an opportunity to sit in a circle with other men from the Mankind Project, and to experience a small part of what it is like to participate in the ongoing work of MKP. This is a special opportunity to experience something of the Mankind Project before participating in a New Warrior Training Adventure. If you are interested, please contact Stephen Heyns 021 683 9237/ 083 280 0189, or stephen.heyns@iafrica.com.

Details of the next honouring ceremony: 9 March, 2010 at 19h00. Venue to be annunced (you do not need an invite to attend)

Q: My husband is a good man. Will the same man return from the weekend?
A: Yes is the short answer. There may be more of him, in other words, men often discover new facets of themselves - this is a good thing, ask the partner of any MKP man! The weekend aims to enlighten men, not change their core values.

Q: What actually happens on a weekend? Is there anything strange that I will have to do?
A: Firstly, no, there is nothing strange. Secondly, every exercise is voluntary, there is no pressure to do anything you are uncomfortable with.

Q: Is this a secret society?
A: No. The men are part of a healthy and supportive community. As such, in order to respect what men share, their confidentiality is respected and highly valued.

Q: My boyfriend is already so macho, is he going to be more so after the weekend?
A: If anything, men return from the weekend more balanced. Men are invited to explore both their masculine and feminine side.

Q: It seems expensive, who gets all the money?
A: The ManKind Project is non-profit. The majority of staff on the weekend are volunteers. The fees are used for materials, accommodation, food and running costs. Once you have been through the weekend, if you want to see the financials of the organisation, they will be made available to you.

Q: My life is good, why would I do this weekend training?
A: Personal growth is not about making a bad life into a good one, or even a good life into a great one. Most people spend their lives not realising their full potential. This is an opportunity to move closer toward your ideal self.

Q: Will this help my career?
A: This is not a leadership course. But you may well emerge as a better leader because the weekend does address issues of vision and accountability. There are Leadership training courses available should you be interested once you have gone through the weekend.

Q: Will this help my family life?
A: There is no categorical answer to this. Many men do find this to be true. Men often return to their families with more self esteem, less anger / shame / fear. Testimony to their abilities as husbands and fathers is regularly heard at the "Honouring Ceremony".
